Why we use PLA in our 3D-printed creations

At IQ Design, our mission goes far beyond technological innovation. Every object we design is the result of a deep commitment: creating products that are beautiful, useful, and durable — while respecting the planet.

That's why we chose to primarily use PLA (polylactic acid) for our 3D prints.

But what makes PLA so special? And why did we make it the heart of our production?

What exactly is PLA?

PLA is a bioplastic made from renewable plant-based resources like corn starch, sugar beet, or sugar cane. Unlike traditional petroleum-based plastics, PLA doesn't rely on fossil fuels.

Today, it's one of the most widely used materials in 3D printing — and for good reason: it combines performance, safety, and reduced environmental impact.

One of PLA's biggest advantages is its biodegradability in industrial facilities. Unlike conventional plastics, PLA can break down faster in specialized composting facilities.

What's more, its production generates fewer greenhouse gases and requires less energy than petroleum-based plastics. It's a direct, tangible way to reduce our ecological footprint and support a healthier circular economy.
